Providing self-defense and empowerment education in Nepal

One of Sam's students established an initiative to teach self-defense classes to students in Nepal through the Florida State University group Global Peace Exchange.

Sam “SR” Staley (www.srstaley.com) is a multiple award-winning author of fiction and non-fiction books with a Black Belt in the self-defense based martial art of To-Shin Do. His writing explores the uncomfortable realities, everyday heroism and ethical dilemmas faced by contemporary children and adults in a society that values personal freedom and choice. These themes are central to his empowerment novels such as A Warrior's Soul and Renegade as they show courage amidst the violence in modern schools as well as in his adventure stories such as The Pirate of Panther Bay and Tortuga Bay. His book on college sexual assault, Unsafe On Any Campus? College Sexual Assault and What We Can Do About is an unvarnished look at modern campus life and how it puts students at risk for sexual assault. Sam's articles on sexual assault and self defense have been nationally syndicated and appeared in the New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, the Boston Herald, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Tallahassee Democrat, and more than three dozen newspapers across the nation.
